Whenever your blood pressure readings consistently exceed the sum of 120/70 by 10 or more, it is considered a warning sign that you may have high blood pressure (commonly called hypertension). Please note that high blood pressure should be diagnosed by a qualified health care professional.

Sadly, the World Health Organization states that almost half of adults with high blood pressure don’t know they have the condition! However, globally, hypertension is found to be one of the leading causes of premature death. For example, high blood pressure has been shown to be a key risk factor for developing serious heart disease. High blood pressure has also been linked to the development of chronic kidney disease, dementia and stroke. These health effects are alarming and demonstrate the urgent need to address this silent killer!

To prevent complications related to high blood pressure, we should all check our blood pressure regularly and follow treatment recommendations if the reading is too high. We can avoid health problems related to high blood pressure by staying physically active, such as by doing some form of exercise every day, such as walking, climbing stairs, or riding a bike. It’s also a good idea to eat a healthy, low-fat, vegetable-rich diet to help prevent high blood pressure. It’s also a good idea to do your best to reduce recurring stressors in your life and avoid excessive weight gain, which can lead to high blood pressure problems.

Additionally, techniques such as deep breathing, yoga, self-care, sleep, and low-intensity exercise can help us reduce stress. Additionally, eating a balanced, healthy diet can go a long way in helping us avoid excessive weight gain. Always remember that high blood pressure problems may appear slowly and invisibly, with the excessive pressure it is subjected to destroying major organs bit by bit. These dangerous health effects of high blood pressure are scary, and many people don’t see them coming. However, once our blood pressure rises, it can irreparably change the body and cause significant harm or even death from this silent killer. Fortunately, there are many things we can do to reduce the risk of high blood pressure. Stay healthy!
