weight: 400;”>Let’s talk about pelvic health, which is key to our health, according to Olivia de Maigret, a Paris-trained osteopath and co-founder of Four Moms.

weight: 400;”>Actually, Olivia says your pelvis is pretty much the foundation of your body—and when it’s unhappy, everything can go wrong, including bladder issues, pain, stress, and even sexual health issues. In fact, as many as one in four women suffer from some kind of pelvic floor disorder.

So, what is the pelvic floor?

weight: 400;”>Imagine a muscular little hammock stretching across the bottom of your pelvis. Made up of 26 muscles that connect from your pubic bone to your tailbone, this is your pelvic floor. It keeps your organs in place, helps control your bladder and bowels, and plays a huge role when you’re giving birth. These muscles can be strong, weak, too tight, or too loose, and any imbalance can lead to a variety of problems.

weight: 400;”>Guess what? Women are particularly susceptible to pelvic health challenges because the female body has a narrower pelvis, and life events like pregnancy, childbirth, and hormonal changes do bring changes.

weight: 400;”>Olivia tells me that a pelvis is to a woman what a healthy microbiome is to radiant skin. It is the foundation, the center, the quiet powerhouse behind everything from fertility to digestion.

weight: 400;”>Modern life doesn’t help as we tend to sit at desks all day and then sit on tubes and then we collapse on the couch – our pelvis doesn’t like this as sitting stiffens your pelvis and reduces mobility,This is bad for your posture, digestion, and fertility.

Olivia shares her tips for maintaining a healthy pelvis:

    weight: 400;”>Dancing, walking, and stretching all help make the pelvis more flexible and keep blood flowing to these tissues. Dancing is especially good for the pelvis because it relaxes the entire system—it’s fun, freeing, and keeps the pelvic area supple. It’s also a great mood booster.

weight: 400;”>Pelvic health is more than just physical. Emotional stress and conditions such as endometriosis or uterine fibroids can create imbalances in the body. Olivia believes that preparing for childbirth or pregnancy requires not only physical strength but also mental strength.

weight: 400;”>A strong pelvic floor does not mean tightness. It’s about flexibility and control. Many women unknowingly push down instead of contracting properly, which can cause pain or leakage. Learning how to actually use these muscles is a game changer.

  1. Stop repressing

weight: 400;”>Forget the myth that holding in your pee strengthens your pelvic floor. This is not the case. In fact, it can cause tension and other problems. Your pelvic floor should contract and relax naturally—not clench like a fist all day long.

From better posture and digestion to pain relief and even improved intimacy, taking care of your pelvic floor can transform the way you feel every day.
